The Client

The client is a France-based provider of integrated and bespoke FM services especially to the energy and nuclear sector. Its range of services include security, catering, cleaning, landscape management as well as heating and ventilation, fluid management and power.

The Challenge

The client wanted to enter UK’s social housing market. As a preliminary objective, the client had selected the partnership and/or acquisition route to establish its presence in the UK market.

The Solution

  • Business Need & Strategic Options: Post detailed discussions with the client on the most appropriate market entry strategy, it was decided to assess the option of selecting a suitable partner to gain access to the new market. The approach was to create a space for the client to enter the social housing market with its array of FM services for the sector. To create a complimentary offering, teaming up with social housing construction companies was considered as a viable choice.
  • Acquisition Listing: As a first step, a list of major social housing energy companies operating in the UK market was drawn up
  • Acquisition Shortlisting: Post a preliminary assessment of their capabilities, scale of operations and financial health, a shortlisted set of players was prepared. Players whose offerings were a best map with those of the clients to create a complimentary solution offering were essentially selected.
    • This focused and tapered list of 12 social housing energy companies was then presented to the client for final decision making.

The Results: The Client successfully shortlisted 3 social housing partner and eventually acquired £330m business after 1 year thereby strongly positioning them self in the social housing and local government marker.
