French Energy & Facilities Services Leader Improved Its Market Position with a Detailed Assessment of Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

The Client: The client is a France-based provider of integrated and bespoke FM services especially to the energy and nuclear sector. Its range of services include security, catering, cleaning, landscape management as well as heating and ventilation, fluid management and power.

The Challenge:
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) frequently outsources soft FM services such as on-site cleaning to specialized contractors capable of handling nuclear sites. The client wanted to build a consolidated pipeline of FM opportunities with the NDA across all sites it operates.

The Solution:
  • Understanding NDA:
    The NDA is responsible for the safe and efficient disposal of nuclear waste generated in 17 sites across UK. During 2015-16, FM contracts by the NDA had employed almost 18,000 people and the NDA’s planned expenditure for the year stood at £3.31 Bn. A large portion of this amount (£2.91 Bn) was to be spent on site programmes, creating a sizeable addressable market for the client.
  • NDA’s Decommissioning Contract Practices:
    For decommissioning the nuclear sites, the NDA had contracted six major contractors, including two large contractors, namely Sellafield and Magnox. These contractors typically outsource the site-related FM services to leading integrated FM providers such as Interserve and Mitie.
  • Opportunity Listing & Analysis:
    To serve the client’s specific requirement, the FM outsourcing plans of these contractors and related upcoming FM opportunities were collated. A detailed list of FM contracts within the purview of the NDA’s work was drawn up and was then classified into both re-bid and new options. An analysis of this pipeline helped develop a trend in terms of the outsourcing pattern of the contracting authority as well as focus on the immediate opportunities that map well with the client’s own offerings.

The Results: The Client successfully pre-qualified into the £100m NDA project – Sellafield and Magnox.
