The FM Industry has shown resilience during the tough pandemic times even though quite a lot of disruption was seen in the overall business and economic environment in UK and across the globe as well. As per Grant Thornton through their latest quarterly review, Covid-19 could do very little to dull the attraction of a sector that benefits from strong recurring revenues, public sector contracts, increasing order books, non-discretionary spend and regulatory-driven demand. In order to mitigate whatever impact the pandemic had, the FM service providers went in for consolidation through mergers and acquisitions that also helped them boost their bottom lines and reverse the trend of eroding margins. As per this quarterly review by Grant Thornton, the year 2021 saw a decade high of 125 M&A deals in the FM Industry.

The Measure of FM Market - An Insight for January 2022

The FM outsourcing activity picked up big time in the very first month of this year despite the pandemic raring its head again with a more contagious variant.

The Public sector authorities were at the forefront of offering outsourcing contracts and awarded 93 contracts worth £182 Million during the month.

The Private sector was not far behind and closed fifteen contracts worth more than £313 Million during Jan-22.

The Ministry of Defence has published its updated Equipment Plan 2021-2031. The Plan reflects a “radical programme” across Defence to modernize its forces and develop capabilities to counter future threats. The report also breaks down the Defence programme by TLB and the split between procurement and support. The Equipment Plan is still evolving and forecasts will change as delivery schedules and cost estimated develop. One of the risks is the ability to deliver the efficiencies and savings targets described in the Plan.
